Extreme Adventure – Bungee Jumping in Sagana Kenya
One of the extreme adventures available in Kenya is
Bungee jumping which involves a dive from a high structure with an elastic cord
which used to tie the jumper, so that he or she enjoy the sensation of free
falling from a great height but not falling
to the ground. The thrill comes as much from the free-falling as from the
rebounds that gives one a totally exhilarating feeling. Bungee jumping was introduced
in 1979 by David Kirke and Simon Keeling both of whom were members of Dangerous
Sports Club of Oxford University, the jumpers were first arrested but later
released and continued to popularize the sport over the years. The sport’s
popularity was further enhanced by American Television Program “That’s
Incredible” which aired the jumps live on television. The word Bungee means
anything thick and squat which was commonly used for the rubber eraser. The
word bungee which is pronounced “bungy” is also a Kiwi slang for an elastic
strap. This is derived from the elastic strap with which the jumpers are tied
with. Sagana is one of the few places in Africa which offers the tourists and
an opportunity for this sport which is not for the faint hearted but all the
same a great extreme adventure sport.
